Statement
Vote Ross Muller 1
I am a school teacher with 11 years’ experience, including supporting children with Additional Support Needs (ASN) as well a very active member of the Scottish Greens since 2011.
My top priorities as a councillor would be:
1) Environmental action: I will be a strong voice on the council to protect Edinburgh’s green spaces and green belt, recognising their role in nature, air quality, flood prevention and community wellbeing. I will support sustainability and oppose any privatisation of council-run services, keeping public services in public hands and not private profit.
2) Education: increasing the number of teaching assistants in our classes. Increase Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) for schools to tackle the poverty-related attainment gap. I want opportunities for all our young people based on their ability to learn and never on their family's ability to pay.
3) Transport: I will support an expansion of the Low Emission Zone and measures to encourage active travel. This means safer infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users, expanded segregated cycle routes, Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and Open Streets Sundays, giving people safer and quieter streets.
I want to bring my experience in education, my commitment to the environment and determination to keep public services publicly owned to build a cleaner and greener city for everyone from Silverknowes to Seafield and from Leith to Liberton and everywhere in between.
