Statement
Representing Sighthill/Gorgie since 2022, I have built strong working relationships with community activists and organisations, while seeking to amplify the voices of marginalised people and groups.
I make a lot of effort to be accessible and available, holding weekly surgeries and prioritising attendance at community meetings. This relationship-centred approach has brought my constituents closer to decisions that affect them, and seen tangible gains in areas such as housing repairs, green space management and road safety. More details can be found on https://cllrrossmckenzie.wordpress.com/about/.
In City Chambers, I have led on work to increase regulation of private landlords and to improve conditions for gig economy workers. In 2027, Green councillors will have a huge opportunity to make Edinburgh fairer and greener, by introducing rent controls, building social housing and radically reducing private vehicle use, while investing in public transport and active travel.
I feel that I have a contribution to make to that work, I'd love to be part of it, and I can promise to put my heart and soul into it. Although my first preference is to continue in Sighthill/Gorgie, I have included 2 other wards where I have existing relationships and connections.
It is important to me that men are not over-represented in the Green group, so I am willing to step aside to facilitate gender balance.
Regardless of the selection outcome, I am looking forward to campaigning hard for the party across the city.
