Jade Halliday (she/her)

Hey folks, I’m Jade, I’m one of the Co-Convenors of Scottish Young Greens, and I’ve just got my Master’s degree in Public Policy, my dissertation focused on replacing council tax to better fund councils. I’m asking for your support to be one of our candidates for the Council because I want to help bring a new perspective to the Council and empower marginalised communities in our city.

Over the last two years we’ve seen the unionist administration punch down on trans kids with its school bathroom ban. As a trans woman who left Gillespie’s high school five & a half years ago, it sickens me that trans schoolchildren are actively hurt by Council policy. If I can earn your support & get elected, I want to be a councillor who stands in the corner of the marginalised & lifts people up.

I know what it’s like to feel like the world wants you gone, and I want to make sure that Edinburgh Council can take the lead in making all people feel that they are wanted & valued here.

In my time in the party, I have worked to engage young people & student communities. As SYG Co-Convenor I worked with SEEG & EEG to get national Young Green action days for Lorenzo & Isabella’s by-elections, where the Greens had our first Edinburgh by-election win.

We must also use the powers the Council has to uplift working people & build community wealth. If we’re in administration, we must deliver rent controls & implement ecosocialism on a local level.

I hope you’ll consider me when you cast your votes.
