Statement
Edinburgh should be a city that centres planet and people, where it is easy to live, work and play.
Edinburgh is a global city, and I am proud to call this city home! But the city must work for its residents, and we cannot waste our privileged international influence. I believe Edinburgh can and should lead the way in local government. We can build a city that promotes social responsibility and community action, delivers bold environmental policies, tackles poverty, and ensures everyone has access to secure, affordable housing.
Joined-up thinking is what first brought me to the Greens. I, my family, and my friends encounter issues every day that are unjust. What sets the Greens apart is a value system that recognises that these crises are interconnected. I’ve hit the ground running since I became a member. I’ve loved getting to know everyone, joining the branch committee and getting stuck into organising.
For many years, alongside uni, I’ve been working full-time in hospitality. That’s given me lived experience of the realities of unsustainable tourism, poor working conditions, insecure housing, and the negative sides of our night-time economy. I’ve always tried to turn that experience into action: my work in creating a safe and inclusive late-night space earned me the national Best Bar None award for social responsibility.
Fundamentally, I love people, and that is why I want to be a councillor.
