Statement
Following our brilliant Holyrood success, Greens have a real opportunity to lead Edinburgh council! - prioritsing poverty, inequality and the Climate Emergency.
As Green Councillor for Southside-Newington over several terms, and a previous Co-Convenor of the Green Cllr group, I have a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to contribute. This term I helped our team make significant Green gains - as Education spokesperson, with initiatives such as a teacher Sustainability Champion in every Edinburgh school, and on Pensions committee, creating a working group towards divestment from oil&gas
Previous initiatives include: the Council’s 2030 Net Zero target, ‘Park Green’ -aligning parking charges with vehicle CO2, and being the Cllr. who originally proposed the Transient Visitor Levy - bringing in millions and supporting community arts & affordable housing
Before the council I worked as a post-doctoral scientist, Greenpeace campaigner and Head of Policy for Green MSPs. Voluntary roles include 4yrs as SGP Press Officer and VC Election & Campaigns.
As a candidate in Southside-Newington, I have a uniquely high profile with residents, essential to elect two Greens. I’d also secure ongoing initiatives, like Prestonfield community garden, turning roads into playgrounds for Sciennes and Prestonfield primaries and defending greenspace at the Astley Ainslie former-hospital site.
