Why would you like to be elected to the role(s) you are standing for?
I am standing as a candidate for Equity, diversity and Inclusion officer. As someone who is not from Scotland orginally, I understand it can be daunting to approach a new party unit to get involved. As well as being an ex-pat in a new system I'm also a transracial adoptee who is a queer woman of color I have consistenrly known how it feels to have spaces not accept me. However, in my professional work, I've always been someone who works to make sure spaces are open for all identities and abilities. I am standing for this committee because I want the greens to continue to be the home of tolerance and acceptance and I want to ensure that we aren't just tending to our active base, but finding those who are intimidated to be involved to join!
What skills, knowledge and life experience would you bring to the role(s) you are standing for?
Before coming here I worked at the MN State Legislature and on Campaigns for the Minnesota DFL (Our state's version of the democratic party). We passed progressive legislation, but the insitution is still overhwelmlingly white, male, and straight. As leadership staff in the legislature and campaign manager on campaigns queer candidates and candidates of color felt comfortable with me to share struggles, and to workshop ideas. I have run campaigns from a grassroots level, but I've also run campaigns that have gotten people who don't even vote to volunteer and take part. I believe with my skillset and passion for inclusion that I can not only do this role successfully, but grow our active membership within communites who are left behind.
