Statement
The past year has been hugely successful for our Branch and I’ve been really proud to be part of the team during that time. Becoming co-convenor during this election year has been a bit of a whirlwind but one I’ve really enjoyed. Although I’ve been a member for 16 years, and co-convenor of national Policy Committee for several, this has been my first branch role and one I’d love to continue.
IndyRef2 may well throw us back into campaigning but in a post-election year, there is a danger our Branch goals are less clear. During this time, I’m particularly interested in focusing on:
- Becoming more of a campaigning branch – working closely with our elected representatives to help them realise our manifesto pledges.
- Improving branch structures and ways of working so we are even better set up to campaign, fundraise and engage members in the future
- Developing our membership so more people and a greater diversity of people are active in the Branch
The skills I can bring from my volunteer roles with the SGP include chairing meetings, facilitating workshops, running events, and generally keeping things well organised and on track. In my day job I’m a manager for an environmental charity, where I’ve worked for over 20 years. It’s a role that's all about team leadership, project and budget management, collaboration and partnership working – experience and skills I can bring to this role.
With your support, I'd love to continue as co-convenor this year.
