Iina Alexandra Jaara

Hi everyone! My name is Iina, I am an MSc student living in Gorgie and running to be the next Committee Secretary (or Ordinary Member) for the Edinburgh Greens.

A little bit about me. My journey with the green movement started when I joined the Green Party of Finland (Vihreat/De Grona) at 16. Before moving to Scotland in 2014 to study, I had held a vice-convener position in my local branch and been active in the 2012 Finnish presidential elections campaign for the Green candidate. Whilst I stayed away from party politics during my undergraduate studies, I have always held Green values; pro-EU, intersectional feminism, tackling climate change and pro-Scottish independence. I finally joined the SGP after the 2019 General Elections, in which many Europeans like myself cannot vote. Currently, I am the Clerk for the SGP Women's Network.

I believe in being the change you want to see in the world (corny, I know), which is why I want to be part of the Edinburgh branch committee. As an experienced administrator and activist, I can effectively support the branch’s activities, but you can also never have too many young, queer, migrant women on local committees :-)
