Statement
Hi, I’m Ben and alongside Kate Nevens, I’ve been one of the branch convenors for the past 2 years. In this time I’ve also been a candidate in the 2019 General Election, and for the by-election in Craigentinny / Duddingston in 2020. I was also heavily involved in organising our Holyrood campaign with Fraser May and Alys Mumford, and I'm our candidate for next year’s council elections in Morningside.
I’ve had an absolute blast on committee over the past 2 years - so much so that I’m not quite ready to walk away from it yet! I’m putting myself forward for Events Officer or Ordinary Member. I enjoy working on events and I believe that I have shown myself to be a dedicated and competent organiser. In my time on committee, I've helped organise all kinds of events from socials and panels, to training sessions and internal "Party" meetings.
If elected, these are some of the things I’d be thinking about in role:
- What does an inclusive events programme look like, especially in the context of changing COVID restrictions and the (possible) resumption of in person meetings?
- What role do events have to play in the 2022 campaign, and how can our policy/campaigns work relate to this, both from a city-wide and ward team perspective?
- How can we use events to build membership and encourage new members to get involved with the branch/party?
I’d be privileged to have your support to sit on the branch committee for another term - I promise to bring energy, commitment and enthusiasm to the position.
