Statement
I’m asking for your vote to elected me branch Welfare and Conduct officer (WCO) for another year. It is a job I enjoy doing; supporting members and branch in the WCO role. This would be my third term if re-elected.
During the past year I have resolved on an informal basis; this has proved successful for nearly all member issues.
I have had two more serious issues, one resolved with help given to branch CoCos and the other a serious issue giving help and advice to a formal complaint against an Edinburgh Branch member. It was high profile due to public and press interest surrounding the issues; it was eventually past to Conduct & Complaints Committee and was resolved to the code of conduct requirements of Scottish Greens.
After the 2022 Council elections I offered all candidates in Branch a welfare check-in after the election, something that had been rather piecemeal in the past and offered welfare advice to all and one conduct issue resolved at that time.
More effort has been put into helping with welfare issues this year. To that end I have recently joined the newly formed working group for member safety, which will initiate a party wide conversation around member safety.
I want to help us look after each other and work together better as greens. To support our elected officials to do the best work they can and local members the same either via helping with welfare issues or conduct ones.
Please re-elect me to this role which I greatly enjoy doing.
