Timeline
- Nominations open: Thursday 27th May, 12.00am
- Close of nominations: 17th June, 11.59pm
- Candidate statements circulated to membership: with final AGM papers, no later than 21st June 2021
- Vote: at the Edinburgh Greens AGM, 24th June 2021
Requirements for selection
- **Please note that this selection is only open to those for whom being a woman is part of their gender identity**. This is to meet party gender balancing requirements. You can read more about this here.
- Candidates must pass a vetting interview. If you have not been vetted before, you must contact the ERO [email] to complete the vetting innterview before nominations close. For information about vetting, see here.
Submitting your nomination
- Nominations are submitted on this site. Click here to submit your nomination.
- To submit your nomination you will need:
- A candidate statement (max 1500 characters)
- Two branch members to support your nomination - one as a proposer, the other as your seconder
- A photo of yourself

What should I put in my candidate statement?
Your candidate statement will be published in the candidates booklet alongside the statements of all other candidates, and sent to all party members who are eligible to vote. We suggest you:
Tell us about yourself
Things you may want to mention include:
- What you care about
- Your involvement in the Scottish Green Party and other political and campaign activities
- Your job/volunteering experience
- Your family, hobbies and passions
Tell us why you are standing in this election
Things you may want to mention include:
- Particular issues you want to focus on
- Why you are standing specifically for local government
- Why you are standing in this area (if appropriate)
Tell us why you would make a good candidate
Things you may want to mention include:
- Your skills and experiences (including in professional and personal life)
- Any specific election experiences (as candidate or in a campaign team)
- Any training you have taken or planned
- Your views about what makes a good candidate and how you meet that
- Anything about your personal circumstances which mean you will be able to fulfil the duties of a candidate
Other tips to keep in mind when writing your candidate statement
- Please stick to the character limit - answers will be cut off if you do not.
- You cannot include links to paid websites.
- You may include line breaks and up to 6 bullet points across the whole of your nomination form
- It’s a good idea to get someone else to look over your form before submitting it
- You can include one contact method for members to contact you: e.g. email, Facebook, Twitter.
Who can be my nominator / seconder?
These should be two people who have an active membership with the Scottish Green Party. They do not need to live in the ward or be members of the Edinburgh branch. If you need help finding a nominator or seconder, contact the ERO [email].
