Statement
I want our campaign to note local priorities and showcase the ways our 2022 manifesto and our councillors efforts so far this term can work to address them. While open to working with local sub-branches to develop a strong and holistic platform, my three focus areas are health and education, transport, and green planning.
1- Emphasise the importance of protecting and wherever possible improving the local provision of health and education services. Our public services are under immense pressure due to economic mismanagement by the Conservatives, and a lack of local devolution by the SNP. In Colinton-Fairmilehead as of 2022, around 1 in 10 children lived in poverty. Furthermore, over a quarter of the ward population is over the age of 64. As such we should reitirate our manifesto pledges to improve access to public health and support carers.
2- Ensure the provision good quality, reliable public transport, walking, and wheeling infrastructure. The results of the 7-7-7 bus lane trials, and the city mobility plans should be at the foundation of our efforts to connect our city and communities sustainably.
3- Elevate planning policies that meet housing demand whilst protecting green spaces. We should recognise local concerns, and emphasise our community-oriented approach to planning, working to discourage car-centric suburban growth.
This campaign will show that with the right policies, Edinburgh can be a fair, well connected, and future proof green city.
