Daniel Milligan

Hi, I’m Daniel (he/him) and my nomination has been prompted by a personal connection, having lived in the ward for my last year of primary school. I currently live a 15-minute walk/wheel away from the ward. I have 2 years of experience in campaigning with the branch, from the 2022 local elections, Murrayfield-Corstorphine by-election, and recently in the general election. I’d hope to gain from the experience of campaigning as a candidate, which would help me support other candidates in future elections.

I learned the value of local services and green spaces living in Oxgangs. The library, small shops, and medical care were all a short walk away. I started forming an appreciation of how access to services and breathing spaces keep people vested in society.

In the 2022 election, the party had its best results in nearby Colinton Mains. I would propose this as an area to start building up the green vote. There are ample green spaces, though I'd like to speak with residents about how they are used, and about the availability of sports facilities. Edinburgh Leisure is sadly completely absent from the ward.

Active travel and accessibility features such as dropped curbs can be lacking in working-class areas where a lot of folk are not as politically engaged. In our campaign, I'd like to discuss including a few pointers for how residents can empower themselves and make their voices heard.
