Committee Nomination: Robert Keim
Statement
I am standing for the role of Ordinary Member of the Edinburgh Branch Committee. I believe I have been helpful and effective in that role.
I have brought to the Branch Committee a wide-ranging, long-term committment to progressive and environmental politics. I've been an activist in the SGP for five years; this includes at Branch level as well as leading the local team in Inverleith and at the national organisation on the Standing Orders Committee [SOC] and as a Council Representative for Edinburgh.
While living in the States in the seventies and eighties, I was a trade union activist and a member of the New American Movement and the Democratic Socialists of America.
I'm have been a teacher and lecturer, a child care provider, a child care center director, a lab technician and a typesetter. I'm a retired member of UCU.
I am particularly conscious of issues of cross-generational justice. People my age need to step back, but still use our energy, our time and our drive effectively.
The about-to-be-elected Branch Committee will see the Branch through the Holyrood elections in 2021. Having been quite active in the previous Holyrood election, I expect and hope to be useful to the Branch throughout 2021.
I believe that I would be of use in the role of Ordinary Member as I can take flexibly take on tasks as needed.
