Statement
I’m running for re-election as Membership Secretary to build on the progress we’ve made over the last year growing and engaging with the branch membership. Over the last year I’ve helped to develop a strategy for contacting new members across Edinburgh and West Lothian which puts them in touch with their local teams/sub branches and informs them of opportunities to become involved with the branch.
If re-elected, I will prioritise implementing this in the coming months so we are in a good position to bring new members into the upcoming Holyrood election campaign. In addition, I’d like to find new ways of engaging existing members, for example by organising ring-round sessions to encourage members to get involved with the election campaign.
I am very keen to contribute to the Lothian campaign to re-elect Alison and Andy (and hopefully perhaps elect Lorna!). As part of the Lothian Campaign Board I have helped work on plans to conduct phone canvassing as a response to Covid-19. I’d like to continue taking this forward if re-elected as Membership Secretary or in my second preference role, Election Campaign Coordinator.
I’m also running for re-election as branch delegate to the National Council. During an election year, I believe it is more important than ever that the branch maintains good working communications with other party bodies.
