Committee Nomination: Cameron Scally

Hi folks!

I'm Cameron, and I'm currently working in admin at UoE, while juggling that with voluntary+freelance work in harm reduction for people who use drugs.

After an embarrassing-but-brief period flirting with libertarianism in my early teens, I quickly entered the world of left-wing politics and started to learn and develop my ideas in a process that's absolutely still going. However, it wasn't until I moved from studying clinical pharmacology into the world of illicit drug use, getting involved in harm reduction and policy study, that I began to form a worldview coherent enough to call an ideology, which started me on my journey from SNP supporter to SNP reformist and finally into the SGP late last year.

Unfortunately, that coincided with the first rumblings of COVID-19 and, after a few months of joining in with Edinburgh Greens events on the periphery, everything ground to a halt. However, as restrictions lift and/or we get more accustomed to online events, I look forward to getting more deeply involved with supporting the party and the Green movement more broadly.

I still recognise that I'm a bit of a newbie though, which is why I'm running for the roles that I'm running for. Policy&Campaigns is an area where I'm a little more confident but otherwise, I'll just be looking to help out where I can while learning as much as possible in the coming year. This way, I hope I'll be able to contribute more effectively long-term.
