Statement
I’ve really enjoyed being half of the Branch co-convening team for the past two years and I’d like to continue, if members would be happy for me to. I've worked with an excellent co-convenor who knows a lot about the Party but I’m conscious the role would be challenging for two people who haven’t been so involved in the Party before. Over the next year I’d like to pass on some of the things we’ve learnt to a new co-convenor.
The next year may feel like a between-election gap but there is a lot to do to get the Branch ready to build on previous successes at the next Holyrood and Council elections. That includes using Westminster as a chance to get members confident, enthusiastic and skilled at campaigning and developing a really good and diverse pool of candidates. I'm also keen to keep building our capacity to deliver events and do issues based campaigning.
I’ve been an SGP member for 17 years and before getting active with the Branch was Policy Committee co-convenor, giving me understanding of how the Party functions. In my day job I’m a manager for an environmental charity, where I’ve worked for over 20 years. It’s a role that's all about team leadership, project and budget management, collaboration and partnership working – experience and skills I can bring to this role. I’m confident chairing meetings, facilitating workshops, running events, and generally keeping things well organised and on track.
I’d love to have your support to continue as co-convenor this year.
